Ready to start house hunting here in Central Jersey but there doesn't seem to be anything on the market excluding the same houses that have been sitting there for years.
Still too early? I gather most people list their houses when the leaves are on the trees and the grass is green so that the pictures look good and in time for spring selling season. Is there anything else going on?
Are you working with a REALTOR? If you have a good one, you should get new listings emailed to you as soon as they are put into the MLS system. What towns are you interested in?
I've been wondering that too. I've been helping out a friend who is looking and she is getting really frustrated. 6 months ago she saw homes that she liked (but wasn't yet ready to buy as she has young kids in school) and now she says she can't find anything that seems to offer value. I told her just to hand on a bit.

Yes, and she is a good one. She feels it is really slow too. Wondered if it was the same all over the state or just in our area.
Why did you put "Realtor" in all caps?
I feel that there is a misunderstanding of the market, in terms of perception from homeowners. Just like the rest of you, I have seen the same homes that have been there for a while. On the other hand, homes that were taken out of the market; are being put back in the market with a slight increase in asking price; as if jobs and salaries have increased. Six months ago, there was a bit more of inventory with a good stock of homes. Now the story is completely different. The misleading economic news is giving people a wrong or skewed notion of thereal economic clima. Therefore, we continue to propagate a fantasy. Then again, this is just my opinion.

In my opinion, this is normal. Good inventory are priced right, moving fast, and are gone. Bad ones...will sit there for long time till owners take it off or drop the price to find a willing buyer.
Same here, been look at Northern Jersey, and no much new listings available. Either really old listings or really high priced ones (over 1 million dollars)
Maybe New Jersey's market is hanging on really well.

The Spring Market begins in late January and is actually nearing its end. It appears that there will not be much of a listing glut. Nobody is "waiting for green leaves" or anything like that. The main problem is pricing that keeps many who would like to move in an upside down orientation, or close to it, with no prospects of generating a down payment for the next purchase. So those people are "waiting till next year" or beyond.
Nevertheless there is enough inventory out there to find a decent house if you are not hyper-picky.
