Hi

I would really appreciate help from the NJ residents. I am moving to NJ in a week's time and will be staying in my company apartment in Newport for 2 weeks. I need to find a place to live within that time. I will be working in downtown NY. My situation -

1) have two daughters (4 and 2 1/2) - so play school for now and good public school around is a must. Safe kid friendly environment
2) rental budget around $2000 - hopefully 3 bedroom or 2 bedroom with basement
3) I will be taking the train to work

Few people in my office us suggested Metuchen near Edison and Rutherford near Seacaucus.

I am confused and would love to hear views from others. I will have limited time (only weekends) to see the place so all I can do is to search online and talk to people during the week.

Please help.

Thanks

I agree with Rutherford. Fair Lawn, also, a little bit further but on the same train line and still an easy commute.

Because of your daughters, I highly recommend Fair Lawn. It's safe, has plenty fo acticities for your girls, and the schools are top notch. Plus, there are two train stops ehre and total commute to downtown NYC is about 55 mins to an hour.
