I honestly believe taxes will continue to go up in NJ and services will diminish. Recently a poll said: "NJ most corrupt state in nation", too many freebees in this state to the wrong people. Thats why people are making beeline for other states.

My aunt moved to Bridgewater last year from Cartaret - Bridgewater is by far the superior town, and yet her taxes are less than they were in Cartaret! Big reason why though. Bridgewater (as mentioned elsewhere) is bissected by 202, 78, 22, etc. There is a rather significant amount of business supporting the tax base, with truly beneficial rateables, so from what I've seen (this is purely my experience with Bridgewater, and in no way to be seen as fact), this keeps taxes generally lower throughout the township. From the 2002-2006 boom, taxes went up about $4k (around $2-3k in '02) overall. Post-boom, I'd say things will start to level off. I doubt they will go down all that much, since that rarely happens, but I personally wouldn't expect a significant increase.
