Hi,

I am a recent college grad. who has been working full-time at a financial services firm for the last 1 - 2 years. I was looking into moving near Roseland, NJ but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on affordable apartment complexes in the area.

- I will be living by myself (no pets, roommates, etc.)
- Would be fine with a Studio or 1 bedroom apartment
- I am not too concerned with the "bar scene"
- Would prefer to be 30-35 minutes max. from Roseland (currently drive over an hour and fifteen in heavy traffic)
- I was looking at maximum rent of $1,100 per month (preferably something in the $900-$1,000 range if not cheaper)

I spent some of my childhood in Maplewood so was looking around there, but I'm not too familiar with how the area has held up over the years.

As part of my job I occasionally travel to New York but public transportation is not a huge deal for me (the trips are fairly infrequent and I have no qualms with driving to a major transit location to get into the city).

Thanks in advance!

Caldwell is a place you should strongly look at: it's about 5-10 minutes away, and has a suburban city feel.

The problem with Roseland, Essex Fells, Northern Livingston, North Caldwell, etc. is that they're mostly houses owned and generally lived in by upper-class people (so they would not have a need to rent the places out). Only in Caldwell does that start to change, because the nice storefronts mean that there physically are apartments above them.

Best of luck to you.

South Orange is a reasonable commute, although finding something for $1100 could be a challenge. You'd have an interesting, walkable downtown and easy access to the NYC train.
