My husband starts a new job soon in Manhattan. We are from the suburbs. We have two young children and two large dogs. My husband wants a commute no more than 30 minutes. I want safety and somewhere my children can get an excellent education (not just average) without a hefty price tag. That being said- where should we be looking and why? Thank you in advance.
Where's he working in Manhattan? Not what company but whereabouts on the map?
My immediate thought is always Lyndhurst or Rutherford/East Rutherford because they're right before secaucus station, which connects to NY Penn Station.
And at a 30 minute commute, if you mean door-to-door, I'd be right to recommend that to you. Those towns are in Bergen county, known for being really nice with great school system.

And I want to win the Mega Millions right now and pay no taxes on the winnings.

Unless you have the perfect situation (live next to a train station, office also next to the stop), then 30 minutes is virtually impossible. Add great schools and not expensive and I have an ocean front property for you in Nevada.
You guys are too funny..... "tough crowd, tough crowd". Seriously though I guess the point is a 30 minute commute door to door is not really going to happen in the working day.
