The train station closest to where I live, Berkeley Heights is not a reasonable fare for a monthly pass. It's $362 a month. That's like paying off a new car except it's for taking the train to NY Penn Station which is a complete rip off.
The point is I shouldn't have to avoid a major roadway by slaving to NJT when NJ is clearly a driving state (that is unless you want to live amongst urban blight and now own a car.)
