I have been wondering this for months, the light rail has two tracks for much of the line, yet for some reason they operate trains on the opposite side of the tracks when the Flyer is typically running, yet the Flyer doesn't actually pass any trains and overall it seems to make an easy system complicated and even more confusing to those waiting at stations only to have the train they need pull up on the wrong side.

Do anyone have any insight on why they do this? I have been trying to figure it out and I see no valid reason for this.

Nope, I ride the Flyer all the time and have never seen it pass a train once. At first I thought they did it for passing other trains, but they don't. Instead they simply flip them on their routes for a portion of the tracks, then have them switch back over to their original tracks further down.

It seems like they are making it more complicated than it needs to be, which makes me wonder if this is a receipt for disaster.

Yeah, it runs on the correct side in Jersey City and on non-rush hours, it runs on the correct side through Bayonne, but for some reason during rush hours it will often times switch. It is a very odd practice and I don't see the benefit to it.
