HI,
We are from NJ, but we have a second home in MIA. Union city is worse than a bad area of Hialeah. Also, there aren't any Cubans left. It's all central & south Americans. Crime isn't much of an issue there, it's more poverty because everyone there are very, very recent immigrants. I would only consider Hoboken, Edgewater, or Weehawken. Good luck

Um, yes really. Are you saying Union City, NJ is a desirable place to live?? You can't argue that I've given her much better options to look at. So, I think that make you the troll. Lol

Hoboken is out of her budget of 1200 a month to live on her own. "Desirable" isn't a one size fits all term. Manhattan isn't desirable either for my country friends, and the country isn't desirable for the city dwellers.

You shouldn't have a problem finding that in Union City. The closer to the cliffs and/or main roads you stay the better the area, but it is hardly violent crime ridden. West New York, Parts of JC, North Bergen are all very similar. Weehawken has cheaper areas as well.

For price and proximity to city, you can't go wrong. We pay $600 a month each, large 3 level place, city views, light rail a few blocks away, bus to NYC across the street, well lit, you cant really go wrong. In 3 years the closet to a confrontation I got was some bum asking me what I was doing in the area (was around 12 am, white, and in a slightly ****tier part of town), big deal.

Wow, really?

Hialeah is not a joke, it's super ugly, reffy, boring and it can be dangerous....

Good to know the areas are relatively safe, that's extremely important to me because I'll be living alone unless my boyfriend wants to move in (he lives in far away Morris county). It's ok, if it's full of hispanics, where I live now everybody arrived yesterday. I'm just looking to start in a brand new place because honestly I'm tired of Miami. I need a change of scene, I've been living here too long and it's not my cup of tea.

About the parking issue, I think I'll see how it goes parking in the street for a month. If I get too frustrated and I can't find a cheap garage, I might sell it...

After looking more rents around the area, I'm honestly considering West New York, Weehakween and North Bergen... I saw nice 1/1 and studios for around $1,000 with public transportation around the corner... Also, what I love about these areas in general is that is very walkable. Here is Miami I can't walk anywhere because everything is miles away and the weather feels toxic (soooo hot and humid)

I think parking is hard to know in advance. You could be lucky or not, it depends on the area and time of day you are looking for parking. For example, during the day, no problem, but if you're looking for parking in evening or lets say Saturday at 9pm, going to be tough.

Also, if you have nothing but housing surrounding you, that means larger concentrated population and tougher time with parking. We have a large park 5 blocks away so that is always my last resort, along with 3 near by vacant lots (buildings got knocked down) so that I think helps find parking as well. Google maps your address and see what's around, even schools would mean free up parking at night.

Honestly, if you think miami is ugly & feels toxic, this area of NJ is not for you!! It's so much worse! Everywhere you look is an eyesore lol!! I know all places have their good & bad. You're prob better off moving to morris co with your bf!! Much, much nicer over there & that will be the change from miami that you're looking for!

I don't know about that, I live in a so so area right now here in Miami... I would live in Morris county, but the city and most jobs are extremely far away... My boyfriend would move, but in Hoboken, which is very pricey. I guess we could make it splitting rent and bills, but I don't know if we are ready for that step. We've been dating for a while, but we're both virgins in this matter of moving with somebody. However, I showed him a couple apartments (inside and outside) in West New York and he liked them mainly for their location (very close to the city)... Let's see what happens, I can't wait to move
