I saw this tweeter message on CNN.com, what do you think should be done for people who do not evacuate during mandated evacuations but cry for help later?
Personally I say screw them, if your alive after the storm, we'll be there to help you. If not sucks to be you. Why should other people risk there lives because you wanted to be a dumb ass.

My husband VOLUNTEERS as first responder and is certified in water rescue. That means he's one of the ones who gets in a boat to rescue morons out of their flooding homes. Last year when he arrived at a flooding home, the homeowner looked at him and said, "Hey, you're the same guy who took us out of here two years ago."
I say leave 'em and clean the gene pool a little bit.
That said, if they are in an area that isn't prone to flooding and hasn't been ordered to leave and for a freak reason end up flooded, they deserve to be rescued.

nothing should be done for them and nothing will be needed. if they arent able to survive a few days without power, then they should have evacuated. they need to prepare for power loss and first floor flooding. they will be fine.

It's not simply surviving without power, it's DROWNING in a flooded home where the residents are trapped in the second floor of a house so damaged by swift water that it's in danger of collapse or have crawled onto the roof with waters continuing to rise.
If you don't heed mandatory evacuation, you should not receive any services. I know some towns were making residents sign a hold harmless waiver when they did not evacuate.
There is no reason not to evacuate at this point. There are even pet friendly shelters.

Long Beach Island is already under waist deep water and the storm hasn't hit yet.
You're really minimizing the danger of this storm. This was this morning before it even got going.
So you think that people out on the barrier islands will be able to ride this out on their second floors with no ill effects at all?
Inland, sure. Not out there.
