Friend and I are meeting up in North Jersey for the weekend. Want to take the Path train into the city on Sunday for the day. Best bet for free or cheap parking near a Path station?

There is a parking garage at the Grove Street PATH station in Jersey City. $10 for 8 hours.

There's longer-term metered parking in Harrison; don't know how available it is on the weekend. Garage next to the station is $11/12 hours, there's also the $7 Daycare lot on Essex street though I'm not sure it's open on weekends.

I used to park free, as in F R triple EEE free at a few places. A few blocks from Newark Penn for starters.

Any idea which town station would be best for free on the street parking on Sunday for Path train this Sunday?

There all Urban stations , Exchange Place is very easy , so is Newark.... Harrison has restrictions due to construction , JSQ and Grove street are pretty messy... But the Streets in the Ironbound section of Newark are fine....only Ferry Street is metered. The Rates for parking at Newark or Harrison stations is 5-7$....on weekends..

Well it turns out the Exchange Place station is still closed on weekends...due to construction , so your options are Newark Penn station , or Harrison... Hoboken is out of the question , they triple park there. you can also go to Secaucus JCT which is Exit 15X off the Turnpike and take the train into the city.
