That's mostly the park where the riff-raff gathers at night. You won't find any trash on say, Mercer Street.

Who exactly is going to pay that to live in the middle of Trenton?
Definitely not Gov. Chis Christie, that's for sure.

They are probably gorgeous...but they are still in a city with major crime issues on it's hands...as in, you don't want to walk out your front door at night.
At least in Camden the nice areas along the Riverfront are sort of isolated from the rest of the "not so desirable" parts of the city, which is not the same case for Trenton.

you mentioned looking in New Brunswick but the prices seemed high? you can easily rent a 1 or even 2 bedroom with your budget. also, have you look at monthly train costs? last time i checked new Brunswick to NYC was 360 a month, probably a bit more than that if your starting from closer to Trenton. i would give New Brunswick a chance again, its relatively safe and there's a good amount of things to do since its a college town. Commute from to both philly and NYC would be about equal.

I personally live in an area called The Island in Trenton/Ewing area for three years. From my personal perspective, Glen Afton/The Island and Ewing would be a safe area to live in. I am a white female in my early 20's, and I work as a medical technician in the Air Force/attend Rutgers University. I have never had any problems here. I lived here alone and single for over a year. Since then, I got married and my husband and mother in law moved in with me. I know this post was made a couple years ago, but for anyone who might read this... if you want to move here, then you should.

Glen Afton/Island community in Trenton is quite different from most of Trenton, very diverse architecture and a fairly safe area. It is still Trenton, better with the new mayor so far and hopeful for the future.

One still has to deal with Trenton (not better yet) and the school district.
Some lovely housing but there is a reason these homes are so inexpensive.
