I am looking for the BEST school districts for special education particularly strong autism programs. Criteria is Northern Jersey or closest commuting town in south jersey to Manhattan. Price max is 425k. And would like to keep taxes realistic between 5-6k. Thank you.

" And would like to keep taxes realistic between 5-6k." - not sure what that means, I'd be hard pressed to find a 425K house with 5-6K taxes, at least in North Jersey.

i can speak nothing of the districts, but there's a few towns ion bergen county that might have taxes along those lines. Paramus maybe? Low taxes because the amount of businesses in the town...

I don't think taxes of $5 - $6K are realistic at all. Maybe I'm wrong...

But, I live in a 942 s.f. condo in Monmouth County, in a town that doesn't have its own schools or police or fire department, and I pay $4900 in property tax. And have an almost two-hour commute.

Completely unrealistic $5K-$6K in NJ.
My mom living in central Ohio was paying close to $5K.

Regarding an autistic child, I believe I remember someone posting some kind of list with the best districts for autistic kids, but I don't know which they were. Maybe you could find it using the search function.

Property taxes vary but rule of thumb is 2 to 2.5% of value of home will be prop tax. 425k x 2% = 8.5k. You can look up property tax on NJ tax site too fyi.

300k x 2% = 6k so if you want to go by property tax due to carry cost concerns. Then you should look at 300k places...which is going to be quite incredibly difficult to find meeting your criteria.

I do recall as Mightyqueen801 said about other threads regarding special ed so you should be able to search for it. Good luck.

From talking with those in the profession, as well as parents of kids on the spectrum one of the best school systems in the state, and a model for other schools, is the program in the Bernards School district. (Bernards School district is comprised of Basking Ridge, Liberty Corner, and Lyons) while you'd be hard pressed to find a new updated SFH for your budget, there are a number of townhome and condo communities that do fit the bill. You can find some older SFH for under 400K, but it is highly likey that they will need updating and your taxes will be slightly over 6k, depending on acreage. An added plus for you is that Bernards Twp has two train stations on the midtown direct train line, that gets you to NYC Penn Station in just over an hour (~65/68 min)
