I got a job offer in Florham Park and I live in Somerset, right off 287 Exit 10. I would need to take 287N to go work. From google map, it shows 40 minutes drive, and it seems to be better if I leave before 7:30am, cause after 8, it shows the traffic can take over 1 hr. Is there anyone else travel the same route? Do you have any suggestions as to when to leave or if there is an alternative route? How is the traffic in the coming back? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Depending where you are in Florham Park, you could also take 78E and then 24N. Either way, 45 mins sounds reasonable. Of course, the earlier you leave the better as traffic would be heaviest between 7-9.
Timing is definitely key. 287 (and 24 if you choose the other route) gets pretty congested in peak times. I've generally traveled the opposite direction on 287 and it usually looks worse in your direction.

My sister did this commute for years. She lived just off Easton Ave and commuted to FP. Every morning she listened to the traffic reports, and then depending on the traffic tie ups/accidents, she chose one of three basic routes to work. Mostly she took 287 to 525 and went through Martinsville and to Mt Airy Rd, where she picked up 287 north again and then on to Florham Park. Depending on traffic she either got off in Morristown and went on Columbia Tpk to FP, or if there was traffic there she stayed on 287 until 24 E to reach FP. It took her ~1 hr, maybe slightly longer, which was considerably less than sticking on 287 the whole way to the Morristown area, and avoids the traffic on 287 in the Somerville area and the 78/287 interchange. (which frequently has tie ups)
If there were tie ups on 287 en route, she would opt to go via 78 to 24, providing there were no ties ups there.
Google maps estimated time is quite, um optimistic, no way it is going to be 35/45 min during rush.
I forgot to mention that if the tie up on 287 is north of the Mt Airy interchange, there are tertiary roads in the Martinsville area that you can easily take further north and then rejoin 287 at N Maple Ave and if needed all the way to Morristown. (which is handy when accidents occur when you are already en route)
