I've been looking at condos lately and was wondering how you would calculate the property tax per year for a condo. I'd like to know the ballpark figure of taxes before I seriously consider a particular condo unit. Sometimes the listings give a tax amount but I'd like to do my own calculations to be safe.

Does the formula involve multiplying the total assessed value of a condo unit by the current tax rate for the town?

For instance:
tax rate for town = 3 %
Land Assessment = $100,000
Building Assessment = $50,000

Would you multiply the total assessed value of $150,000 by the 3% tax rate to get a yearly tax amount of $4500?

Thanks

Just go to: http://www.njactb.org/ to check the property taxes on the unit.

If its a brand new construction, the builder should be able to provide what the estimated taxes will be.

You could also call the town tax assessor for the taxes.

you can also google "datauniverse" and scroll down to: "N.J. Property Owners and Assessments" From there you can do a search of the property and see what they are paying in taxes in the past year.

Correct.

Assessed Value X General Tax Rate for the town = Tax Bill
