My lease at Hunters Glen Apts in Plainsboro NJ ends Aug 4th and rent is paid in full.
I had to vacate the apt. in July to travel to Minneapolis for job reasons. I am being asked to pay $1500 for lease breakage charges even though I don't intend to break the lease but instead pay all rent dues as stipulated. How can my credit be damaged if I don't pay the charges?

Have you given fair notice in writing (at least 30 days prior) that you will NOT be renewing your lease and moving out?
Have you (or will you) continue to pay rent up until the end of the lease?

If you have done both of those things, it would be very hard to prove to a judge that you had broken the lease. Only a judge can force you to pay additional money. If there is nothing broken, if the apt has been swept clean and emptied, if all rent is paid, they cant even hold your security deposit. If they do, you can take them to court.

I suggest to start making copies of all correspondence, take a million pictures of how you left the place the day you turn in the keys, preferably with a newspaper in the pic to show the date.

hey,

Have you given the 2 months notice?
If you haven't they will charge you a month on month rent until the completion of 60 days.
You need to give it on Jun4 if you are moving out on Aug4.
The month on month here is very expensive. its a market rate which is calculated by the company probably is 150% of what you are paying right now + 300$.
None of these are in the lease.
When you left did they charge you, I have heard a lot they do.

They are well known for overcharging on leaving. I was charged for a dirty oven that I never tunred on.

They are also known for jacking up rent every year. It was funny when I left. I already had a place, and when I got the renewal, I told them that the rent increase was too high and I was leaving. They offerred to drop it 3 times, and told me if I came back when the manager was there, he could lower it more.

I have a huge list of issues old bunch of houses.
Over charging.
Cheating.
Not informing.
The rent increase is inconsistent.
The rents are inconsistent - 1 br basic costs the same as the upgraded one.
