Hi All, my husband is being transferred to Parsippany, NJ... we will be moving from the suburbs of Boston. He is there nearly every week, and not crazy about the exact area, and prefers we live in a surrounding town. We have a 2 year old, and are looking for a nice town, good schools, safe, with maybe some newer amentities. Price Range would be 800k- 1.1 mil. I don't really know anything about the area, he has mentioned summit, and chatham... I've looked online and it doesn't seem like we would get much, out of what I consider a fairly healthy budget. Any other towns, areas or neighborhoods we should consider. He doesn't want to drive more than 30 minutes.

Thank you!!!

Hi,

You've posted this on the "NJ Suburbs of Philadelphia" subsection of the NJ forum, which is meant for posts about South Jersey/specifically the Philly area. Parsippany is in Morris County in North Jersey, so for best answers this should be moved to the regular New Jersey forum. It can be a little confusing - it's okay.

My suggestions would be Montville, Boonton, and Mountain Lakes, which are close to Parsippany and very safe. All three are nice towns with good schools, and you'll be able to find homes in your budget.

I'm shaking my head just slightly because back in the early 1980's we bought a house on 1.3 acres high up on a hill with breathtaking views at ,,,,$74K. And that was one of the more expensive houses back then. And its about 10 minutes west of Parsippany. There should be tons of stuff since you have a target that iis more than ten times what we paid.

Many nice places not too far like Rockaway and Denville town and townships, Boonton and Boonton Twsp etc.

I know its not the 1980's pricing anymore but you're talking almost a gazillion million dollars.

Mountain Lakes, Montville, Madison, and Randolph would all be good options.

Summit and Chatham have a train station and that's priced in accordingly. Lots of good towns around which don't, so you'll get more for your money if you don't need the station. In addition to the above, to the east there's Livingston, Florham Park, and even Essex Fells.

Don't overlook Harding Twp in Morris Township. I had an office in Parsippany and the drive is quite reasonable. The taxes are half of what some of those other towns are. There are homes in your price range. www.gsmls.com

Mountain Lakes should be the first choice, followed by Boonton Twp (sends to MLHS).

As a ML resident and NJ native, the town is second to none in the state for best place to raise kids. Beautiful architecture, great schools and athletic teams, strong community feel with minimal snob factor.

You'll get a lot more for your money than in Boston, but the taxes are more.

We're currently in the process of selling in ML and relocating to Boston- Maybe we can trade!
