Where do commuters to downtown NYC live?

To be more specific, where do commuters
1. with young children
2. that want an acre or possibly much more than an acre of property
3. with great schools
4. and fresh air
live?

Does this exist anywhere within 1 hour and 15 minutes of downtown NY for less than $1.5??

With the size and fresh air - look a little further out to Hunterdon County. You'll be at about an hour and a half to start, but you'll begin hitting a county with alot of plots preserved as open space, some preserved farmland, and far more space.

Definitely difficult to find.
Maybe Montville or up in Bergen County somewhere but no towns are coming to mind. Hunterdon County sounds ideal but it will definitely be over an hour.

A full acre of land is quite a bit in NJ. You will not really find it anywhere within an hour to 1.5 hours to NYC at $1.5 million. Bedmister might be an option but that much land alone may cost $1.5 million. Hunterdon will be a bit less but definitely over 1.5 hours. And upper Bergen or Passaic counties might be somewhere else to look but again they're not cheap and not really close to NYC (downtown especially).

Check out Hightstown, you could probably get everything you're looking for there.

Don't bother with upper Bergen County - you will not find an acre of land for $1.5mil. Towns like Alpine and Saddle River have plenty of properties of that size but you'll need to spend at least $2.3-2.5mil to get it. Most towns in Northern Jersey are not zoned to have such big properties. I live in Ridgewood (Begren County), and large properties (acre+) are not easy to find. They do exist but not too many.

I am suggesting Morris county and particularly Mendham b/c I know the properties are quite large. It's so nice to see a place that doesn't stuff a bunch of HUGE houses on tiny plots of land.

Mendham has been recommended to me by friends as well. I don't know what the commute is exactly to Hoboken.

I've also been told to check out Colts Neck, Holmdel,Rumson, Little Silver. Anyone have any info on these? Never been there and know nothing about them. I will plan a driving tour in the next weekend or two if possible.
