Hi,
We are thinking of moving to Manalapan. We are looking for good schools and some Indian community and our price range for the home is around 500-650K. Since we don't have any family here, Indian community becomes particularly important for us as well as our kids to associate with on a regular basis, more so around religious holidays. We were looking at Knob-hill and Meadow creek in Manalapan. Both places seem good- the only thing we don't know is whether there will be any Indian children in either of these communities, hopefully some of whom will go to the same school as our kids, so that our kids don't feel like they are different or alone in their class. Our children are 4 years old, so they have sometime before they go to the elementary school but we want to start looking from now on. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Don't think Manalapan is known for its Indian community. What is your commuting destination, other housing variables (type of house, type of town you are looking for, near shopping/nightlife/open space etc). Depending on that there are probably much better places to look if being near Indian community is something you need/require.

Thank you. We need to have access to either 33 or 195 or GSP- one of us works in Princeton and the other in South Jersey (closer to Manahawkin, exit 63 in GSP), so we are trying to optimize the commute. Other possibilities we considered were Holmdel, Marlboro and Robbinsville. We like to stay in Monmouth county for the variety of high school programs and Manalapan seemed to offer more space for the price. For commute reasons, we didn't consider West Windsor-Plainsboro or anywhere north of it. Monroe seems to have Indian community but not sure about the schools there. The commute time is still high from Monroe as well. Not sure of Indian community in Marlboro and Holmdel both of which might be okay in terms of commute. Please feel free to suggest any other place we have not looked- thank you for your help!

That's a tough one then. Not sure if you're really going to find anything in between with a large Indian community- might you consider living near where one of you works and then only having one long commute instead of two?

Otherwise forgetting the Indian community (which would be Robbinsville, Plainsboro, WW, Monroe) if you're dead set on Monmouth County- best schools in your budget are Holmdel and Marlboro (rumson/Fair Haven would be a longer commute and you'd most likley be disappointed at housing stock in your budget). Manalapan, Little Silver, Colts Neck and Shrewsbury would also be considerations with very good schools a light step down. Wall Twp, Freehold Twp, and Howell/farmingdale are also places to look. Pls keep in mind none of these places offers much diversity and while Marlboro offers a large Russian and Jewish population and Holmdel a large Chinese community none offer much for Indians as far as I know. That being said,tThey are all wonderful places to live

Thank you. It helps to know what we might get. I think we might have to compromise on the community and pick the place best for schools, and a reasonable friendly neighborhood. Would you recommend Marlboro, Manalapan, Freehold or Holmdel, given none of these places have any Indian community, just considering the schools and the quality of life? All of these places are similar as far as the commute is concerned, for us. Thanks!

all 4 are good -with schools being most important Holmdel then Marlboro you best bets- but keep in mind at this point there's really not much of a difference in that one is much better than anohter...also for the Freehold regional district based on certain programs you can attend schools in other towns (similar to the Monmouth County Vocational district). You could also consider Middletown (just stick to homes that feed into Mtwon South HS, mostly Oak Hill/Lincroft areas)- either way Monmouth County has a lot of wonderful things going on- the parks and rec activities are amazing. Also if you look Freehold stick to Freehold Township (not the borough)!!

Just keep in mind Marlboro, Manalapan, and Freehold will be more "development style" housing, but that might help for meeting people too.

We looked into those towns for a bit- one thing to be weary of- look into flood zones- lots of suprising answers there for houses (built on old farms)....

Thank you! Yes, we really like the high school programs in monmouth county- although it is too far to think about it now, since our children are barely getting into elementary school, it is definitely a draw for us with the variety of programs available in high schools. We might just stick to monmouth county after all, foregoing the Indian community and taking a chance that may be there are at least a few Indian kids here and there. Thanks a lot for your helpful replies! Really appreciate it.

Compared to those other towns there are a decent number of Indians in Old Bridge, which is one town north of Marlboro but in Middlesex County. In general it's much more diverse than those other lily white Monmouth towns.

Again, though, it's going to be a long ride to Exit 63 on the Parkway and I'm sure some here will look down their nose at Old Bridge compared to the Holmdels and Marlboros of the world.

Towns I suggested were due to OP's consideration of towns with top schools. Old Bridge is a nice enought town, has some diversity but schools do not match up to other towns discussed.

As predicted - there it is. "Match up"..says who? Some bogus rankings done by a magazine or slightly higher test scores?

If a student is reasonably intelligent, applies him/herself and has involved parents he or she will get the same quality of education in Old Bridge (or any other "nice enough" town whose schools don't "match up") as in any of the towns you mentioned. I defy anyone to prove differently.

Anyway, sorry to go off topic. Just a pet peeve I have. People get way too caught up in nonsense on occasion.
