Listen with that kind of money , I would just go to New Canaan CT. Great schools, lower property tax and less than 1 hr commute to nyc , trains to boot. Great walkable town, close amenities and so much more charm than NJ,

Um, I used to live in Greenwich. In no sense is New Canaan a sub 1 hr commute to the city. The train ride is over an hour even without including the drive to the train station (it's a large town so walkabilility isn't assured). It's also 45 miles out, which makes it a far longer drive than all of Bergen county, and even most portions of Morris.

Not sure what you mean by "that kind of money", there are parts of northern nj which easily rival and even surpass New Canaan in wealth.

Short Hills, NJ sounds like your kind of place. You won't be buying one of the larger mansions but a modest home like you describe should be no problem. Train station (Morris & Essex line, Midtown Direct) in town, within walking distance of houses like you describe.

You must be a lawyer or some non quantitative field to wonder if that income works? Or perhaps you are so conditioned to accept outrageous cost of living you don't realize you are above 98% of those living in the area.

Do you have equity from a home in Boston or are you a first time buyer? Private schools are not necessary for a great education in the towns you will fit in at this income level.

Best wishes on your move.

I was tempted to check if a player from a Boston area professional sports team was recently added to the roster of a NY team after reading the original post. ;D

But not in one of the nicer parts of town. 'Fraid he'll be slumming it for a while until that promotion kicks in.

if you need some extra cash to make ends meet, you can always work part time as an uber driver.

Not trying to be insulting but with that salary try to move out of the Northeast the taxes will kill that salary if you can't live in Alpine or Short Hills or Livingston all super nice towns.

Livingston's not in the same league as Short Hills or Alpine, at all. Also, someone with that kind of money wouldn't worry much about taxes, if you know what I mean.
