Do you think Paterson is the Chicago of New Jersey? I think you might be able to make that assertion. Paterson is the third largest city in the state while Chicago is the third largest city in the United States. Chicago is known for its architecture while Paterson has beautiful Beaux Arts architecture in the downtown. Both cities are also known for their crime issues. Both cities have great food. Both cities are very segregated. In Paterson, even the Hispanics are divided with a Peruvian neighborhood in one area, Dominican neighborhood in another, Mexican neighborhood in this place, and a Colombian neighborhood in that place. The fourth ward in Paterson feels a little like a Chicago inner city area.

I know that Chicago is more world class than Paterson. Another difference is that Chicago has a larger population of whites and Asians and there are more white collar people in Chicago. But hey we are talking about New Jersey cities and New Jersey cities are usually not world class anyway so since we are comparing Paterson to other New Jersey cities maybe this title will still hold truth? I don't know.

I don't agree with this one. Newark is not the New York City of New Jersey. Newark might be the largest city of NJ and NYC might be the largest city in the United States but other than that I don't see too many parallels. Maybe Jersey City could be the New York City of New Jersey?

Whether you agree with it or not NYC is considered sometimes the best city in the world. Newark is definitely not considered the best city in the state. Even people who are hopeful about Newark's renaissance will not say Newark is the best city in the state. Although I am not saying Jersey City is the best city in the state I feel there are more parallels between JC and NYC than Newark and NYC. I also feel there are more parallels with Chicago and Paterson.

It would be absurd to say Chicago is exactly like Paterson. New Jersey has no city with over 2 million people like Chicago. However given what New Jersey has I don't think I am too far off saying Paterson is kind of like the Chicago of Paterson. Sure there won't be exact similarities but you could draw some parallels.

I really do hope that Newark does recover. It would be great for the city and the state if Newark does get better and I would love to see that day. I like Newark and have visited Newark and taken photos. Unfortunately, as of now we cannot honestly say Newark is the best city in the state.

Newark is the Detroit of New Jersey. Patterson and Camden are also the Detroits of New Jersey.
