Any idea who paid the $6.5 billion for the new Eastern span of the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge?

Do not build it.

The cost estimates will not be in the same universe at actual costs. Within a short time we will find the cost and time estimates to be so large as to be unfeasible, however, we will be at a tipping point and be held hostage and be at a point of no return. the folks who underestimated the project will still be paid and kep their jobs.

Worked for obamacare. The history of such shenanigans/corruption is so widespread and almost infinite and yet the taxpayer have not caught on.

So the political strategy in infrastructure projects is to intentionally underestimate time and cost and force the taxpayers to pay what they cannot afford. Where is Eric holder when you need a prominent USAG to investigate corruption?

Fill in the river or keep extending the land mass of manhattan or stop complaining and move elswhere. In better times alternatives can be considered. We just have to wait for obama to leave and a repub to move in for the economy to explode in a good way and reap the benefits of profit.

It should of started 5 years ago with the stimulus money from the feds that was turned down. The poll should list Port Authority of NY and NJ also. The longer we wait the more it will cost.

The Port Authority put in three billion for the tunnel last time, remember? That money's gone. It was taken by Christie instead to fix the Pulaski and the Wittpenn bridges. That's still under investigation as a possible misuse of funds.

Maybe, but lets face it, the Pulaski needed fixing. It was falling apart. I never felt safe driving over it.

Oh yeah. It's a fracture-critical bridge, meaning that if one of the major components failed, the whole thing could come down. I worked with structural engineers who would go out of their way not to drive on it.

The problem is that investors spend big bucks buying the bonds that the PA issues, and they buy those bonds based on what the PA does with its money at its facilities within the confines of the laws that govern what the PA can and cannot do.

They are not happy that you just merrily snatched up $3 billion that was earmarked for a true trans-Hudson project, which is what the PA was formed to do, and airily declared that it was now going to be used to fix this bridge, using as the reasoning that the Pulaski provides access to the Lincoln Tunnel. That is the basis under which Chris Christie got lawyers to say "Yeah, it's OK to use this money for the Pulaski because it's part of Lincoln Tunnel access." Now those lawyers have retained lawyers because the people who want to get at Christie are going after this. The Pulaski provides no revenue and is pretty damn far from the Lincoln Tunnel. I live in Monmouth County, and I suppose that my street outside could be considered Lincoln Tunnel access because if I decided to drive to the Lincoln Tunnel, I'd have to drive down my street. It's the same idea.

And yes, it's the Lincoln, not the Holland. Using the Holland as the excuse doesn't work because the Holland was built before the PA took it over so access to the HT doesn't fall under the same legalities as access to the Lincoln, which the PA did build.

This should have been done during Christie's first term. None of these politicians think long term.

Funding should mostly come from the federal government, and both NY and NEW york. Otherwise, you will have a Big dig scenario with only the feds involved. THe country should really help out on the northeast corridor. THat's a lot of money on that corridor and high population density. Plus, Nj and NY give more to the the fed than it recieves back.
