In the City if you're looking for a restroom than a Barnes & Noble is always a good choice. Other options are department stores (i.e. Macy's), Penn Station, the public library.
Most restaurants in the City won't let you use their restroom unless you buy something. So, buy a small drink & use the facilities. <g>
Having schlept a toddler around the City years ago I learned all these tricks. LOL
Someone told me there's an app that shows where restrooms are available in the City. Anyone know about that?
I have offices in not so ritzy parts of the city. im in Bronx, Jamaica, and other not so white areas. I never noticed any barnes and nobles where I go. where I go, the mcdonalds has a locked bathroom and good luck getting a cup from the cashiers. I may have a shot since im white.
my daughter is safe and sound in Holmdel, nj. but if I had her then its harder for employees of restaurants to say no when there is a bathroom emergency. one type of place I realized was good for that on long drives was hotels by the highway.
This has become a "where to find a bathroom" thread?
You can find, use a bathroom if you can convince the person in charge, the keeper of the keys, that they're going to have a really big mess on their hands if they don't point out or unlock the bathroom in 30 seconds or less--and lose business.

+1
Almost every hotel has restrooms located adjacent to the lobby, and they are usually very well-maintained.

Yes, they are available, but I have not been happy with the cleanliness (or, lack of same) of most of them.

I think this is true. But that is likely because they are so lax (no pun intended) about letting everybody use them.
Is that the one that became another brand book store at one point (Waldenbooks?) Is that location not a bookstore anymore?
Walden has been gone from the retail scene for...quite a while.
It is possible that this location was a Walden location prior to B & N moving in, but I can't say for sure.
When I was last in that neighborhood, I noticed that B & N was gone, but I can't recall what is now located on that corner.
I bet most people unwilling to pay a buck for tap water or a cup would be more than happy to pay a buck for a clean bathroom.
In Europe, I was always willing to pay the equivalent of a few cents for restroom access, but I did not appreciate the allocation of one sheet of toilet paper for each paying customer.
