Any thoughts on East Orange near the border with glen Ridge? Nice suburban feel?

I know some border areas blend seamlessly into a neighboring town but remember if you have children you will get assigned to the school district your house is physically in, barring some exceptions. Even if you don't have kids consider the re-sale value of your home. Living in a town with a poor school system, not matter how close it is to one with an excellent system, will devalue your property.

There is no comparison. East Orange is a disaster.

I know a few streets intertwine but they are complete opposite place. One is on the the nicest towns and NJ and the other is one of the worst.

Actual crime statistics for East Orange paint a vastly different picture than what you'll see here. They've improved greatly over the last decade and are actually closer statistically to somewhere like South Orange than Newark or Orange. The overall financial demographic of the two towns is a pretty big difference though.

If you're talking streets that are adjacent to Glend Ridge, then I don't see a problem. Do you have kids? Are schools a factor?

The crime rate has improved but the city is still really seedy. Just drive around town and you'll see steel gates on most businesses, even in the better areas like near the Bloomfield border. It is certainly not a place where you would want to invest money in a home, especially if you have kids.

Anything north of Dodd St, west of Glenwood is pretty decent imo. Maybe Park Street by Thomas Blvd is a little shabby but other than that...

I don't know, if a place has turned a corner on crime recently but still has a negative reputation that could easily fade then that's not an entirely unreasonable place to invest money. All real estate has risk, and it's not like he's implied that he's looking for an 'investment' property.
