Hello...

I am looking for suggestions on restaurants in New Jersey, preferably Northern NJ that are BYOB.

The only ones I know of are:
-Sanducci - River Edge
-Queen Margarita - Nutley

I would like some more suggestions,

THANKS!

It would be a long list; due to NJs utterly stupid liquor laws, most restaurants are BYOB.

Yup!
Liquor regulations can be considerably different on this side of the pond, as compared to The UK.

Liquor licenses are tightly controlled by municipalities--at least in NJ--and as a result, they can be extremely costly. In some towns, I believe that when one of the scarce liquor licenses comes up for sale, the price can be in the range of a few hundred thousand $$.

I believe that licenses to serve just wine--rather than hard liquor--are considerably cheaper, but they still cost a restaurant owner enough money so that it can be an issue for a small establishment.

Something that--IIRC--is unique to NJ is the limitation of a maximum of two liquor licenses for any one owner. That is why Trader Joe's--which is prized by many folks because they sell lower-priced wines and liquors--only sells beer, wine, and liquor at two of their NJ locations. That type of limitation on commerce is particularly dumb, IMHO.

NJ's liquor laws really aren't that bad compared to other states. As a consumer, I like BYOB restaurants (although I can see where restaurant owners wouldn't). Makes it much cheaper to eat out. Plus I like that we can buy all varieties of alcohol at one store, which you cant do in Pennsylvania or Delaware.

They could be much worse. The licensing system is not going to change at this point because those who have licenses paid big bucks to get them and need to be able to recoup when it becomes time to sell them.

Well, I'll be in London for the first time in a few weeks, so I'm glad to know that I'll be able to easily have a pint or a glass of wine with my dinner.

Pretty much anywhere that doesn't serve any alcohol. All the pizza joints, Thai, sushi, etc. Have yet to bring my bottle of wine and gotten it wrong. Yelp is your friend. Certainly the places serving mixed drinks will likely not.

Love it.
