Police-involved shooting kills 20-year-old Atlantic City man, prosecutor says - Press of Atlantic City: News

Im lying though right? lol . Those are only two incidents right on my street. The boy was killed by police in a shootout in my backyard. The guy got his neck sliced off at the store across the street. And im exaggerating right? Less than a year and this crazy stuff is going on. You people living in the suburbs downplay everything like its not all that bad because is a walk in the park where you live. Problem is , you dont actually live in the area so you cannot speak on anything thats going on. You have a outside point of view not inside, so stick with what you really know and dont pretend to really "know" whats going on.
Dude... seriously read my posts. I KNOW AC IS BAD. I just don't think you actually live there. I think you're trolling because your story seems weird to me. I don't know, something just seems off about your story and posts. If you really do live in AC and your whole story is true, then sorry I don't mean any offense but reading through this thread I found myself doing this a lot, and not because I doubt that AC is bad but because I think your whole story is weird, from leaving your fiancé to move to AC as if it's some paradise, to claiming you have witnessed so many bad things so often. Even your posts to me about "you people living in the suburbs just don't know" is fishy. You've said this twice now, even when I acknowledged AC is bad. It's like a weird agenda. AC is dangerous and economically depressed. This isn't news to us in Jersey. We all know this. I wouldn't live there, personally. You don't need to preach to me as if I don't know. Wait, how's this for a concept: us people in the suburbs DO know, and that's why we live in the suburbs.

I don't want to "live in your apartment." Keep it. I suggest you leave ASAP. There are plenty of great places to live in NJ.

I am not from this place. I am sorry i didnt know New Jersey like the back of my hand before i moved here ! I started this thread to warn people of the danger and help them out. I never meant any harm or provoke any type of satire in the post. What i am going through is a real life situation. It may be hard to take this serious for you because you are not in my shoes. I made a few terrible mistakes and i have to deal with the fact i made them. My famiily has cut contact with me , my fiance is telling people bad things about me, i have exhausted my funds. Im literally at ground zero and for you people to tell me this is not true its a slap in the face really. Do i have to come to your door personally, grab you and take you to my apartment to witness the chaos unfolding? we can have a nice cup of Joe while we look among the top floor view of the city. We can cruise the city in my 2003 Nissan Maxima whizzing through prostitutes, drug dealers, crackheads, young thugs, and upset gamblers looking to rob someone for their riches back. From the sea wall uptown on Maine Avenue. To The bus terminal on Ohio and Atlantic. To Mississippi Avenue to all the way down to Ventnor Avenue save for a few pockets in between. Thats the whole Atlantic City. Everything is hood. Want to take me up on the offer?

Just from my own personal experience, I've done some work for the community in AC and it is nowhere near as bad as some of the other places I've been.

I'd have no qualms living there.

Camden, different story.
I can tell you never lived here and would move back to where you came from the following week after. You did community work on the outskirts ( going towards Ventnor, Brigantine, Chelsea heights areas) You did NOT do community work here in Inner Atlantic City city limits because you would see what im talking about. and you left the city after the work was over with. Even Camden has calmed down with crime . Stop making these outside perspective posts. Get your butt down to Atlantic City, Stay here for a week. Walk around like you would in a safe city. Walk the beautiful trash littered parks. Observe the crackhead beggars on the Boardwalk .A couple things i know FOR SURE will happen in that week? 1. You will be robbed atleast once. 2. Your car will be broken into atleast once. 3. If your white you will be called "Police informant" 4. You will be approached by a stripper atleast twice. 5. You will be asked if you want any drugs atleast three times. This is not a joke. This is real life.

You admitted you knew AC wasn't a good place before you came here. New Jersey residents already know, so thanks for trying to alert us, but you're saying nothing new. I don't know anyone who has or would move to AC. I'm sorry your life is so sucky right now but how much research did you do before moving? Did you look into crime stats or anything else? You clearly did make a pretty big mistake that has obviously had some negative consequences. Hopefully you can work everything out.

No, I don't need to come to your apartment and have you show me how bad Atlantic City is. Once again, I know. I have friends who live down the shore and go there all the time for the night. One time a couple summers ago my friends left their stuff on the beach while they went into the ocean and came back to their towels to find all their belongings gone. Wallet, phone, keys. They admitted they were totally dumb for leaving it unattended, especially since they live 40 miles from AC and frequent it for fun, but they made a mistake that day. They had to have their friends drive down with their spare car keys so they could return home.

I don't necessarily think you're lying. Like I said, I just think you're whole story is weird. Not the "AC is dangerous don't move here" part, but how you left your fiancé to come here, just because your friends' parents moved here or whatever, and you just sound kind of dramatic and so shocked at what you've witnessed here. The NJ forum is a hotbed for trolls who love to come along and ask us/tell us dumb obvious things, like "is Newark dangerous?", "why does ALL of New Jersey smell like a refinery?", "are there ANY safe areas of NJ that are actually nice?!"... like come on. This just seemed like another one of those types. "I moved to AC and it's soooo dangerous, don't move there!" We know. Trust me, we know. AC and how much it sucks is frequently discussed here. Your experiences are interesting I guess but really nothing people don't already know. And I think the backstory you shared kind of surprised people. I honestly don't know what you expected moving down there. Hopefully you can work it all out.

I mean, at the least you could have moved elsewhere in Atlantic County. Why Atlantic City? If you wanted it for the nightlife, you could have moved somewhere nearby and just drove in for fun. I guess us New Jerseyans are reacting the way we are to you because we cannot comprehend your decision and we already know what you're telling us. Anyone else could know, also, if they did research into the city. Especially one who is planning to move there. I guess the lesson here is do thorough research before moving into a place that already has a reputation.

A friend in Virginia had told me he always wanted to move here. He said he had family that lived here and said they love it. I Later found out they live in Northfield which is 20 miles away i think. I thought about it for a minute and took a gamble and moved here shortly after. I didnt say i knew it was bad before i came here. I said i thought it would be like vegas. with fun and excitement. I love attractions and i thought this would be a good place to start. I did not know it was dangerous to this extent and now i understand. Ive watched a couple movies about new jersey like new jersey drive and the like, but i thought that was newark and north jersey towards new york and not the rest of jersey.

I guess next time you know to look into it a little more.

Like I said you could always move to a "suburb" of AC, if you will, a surrounding city or town, like Northfield (seems to be about 10 miles away according to Google maps), if your friend's family likes it so much. That way you get AC for the Vegas-like aspect of it, the entertainment, but then you get to leave and not witness the crime at such a level as a resident. As a visitor to AC, staying in the nice hotels and sticking to the touristy, safer areas, you don't exactly notice just how bad it is like you do living there. So you could easily move a little inland and still enjoy Atlantic City, and surrounding beach areas, on the weekends. NJ is a very nice place to live, if you can afford it. Don't believe what most movies or TV shows portray. The whole of North Jersey is nothing like Newark. Most of it is the polar opposite, actually. Like most of South Jersey is nothing like Camden. We have mostly great, safe towns, then we have some iffy areas, then we have downright terrible places I would never recommend. There are only a handful of those.

Yep AC is a horrible place. They actually should just rip up the whole area outside of casinos and build the world best golf courses. It might actually make it a place to visit and conduct business.

Man its just a shame this place has alot of potential. Thugs, prostitutes, and gang members have a foothold on this small city.

That sounds, oddly, quite Trump-esque.

It's a sketchy city for sure. My friends got lost in AC at night. But from experience of living in an ok neighborhood in Philly, it's always best to dress kinda low-key like sweatpants and a hoodie if you're going out after 12-1am to like the local wawa or something.

Similar thing can happen in Philly. If you get lost at night on foot, you may awkwardly find yourself in front of a few housing projects and wandering crackheads/shady characters on street corners. Some of these people at corners get aggressive too so you always have to be careful and respectful to them then walk away as quickly as you can.

I used to live in a gentrified West Philly neighborhood and gunpoint robberies happened once every few weeks and assaults maybe every two months. Once you went up a block or two from where I live, the violence increases by a lot, those two often had the most robberies due to dim lighted streets and very few people walking after 10PM. Few murders too in the area during the 4 years while I lived there. Too many of the streets were vacant at night and it was very common to hear all the police sirens going deeper into West Philly areas where the crime is worse.

My friend lived on one of the "roughest" streets and I walked over there by myself once at night. Let's just say, I'm grateful nothing happened. My friend ended up walking me back because he felt I shouldn't have came alone. He was from North Philly and said this area was nowhere near as rough as where he grew up.
