Depends where you are in Paterson. For my money, its not the most dangerous city in the state.

Its got a large Middle Class and growing Middle Eastern / Indian population.... which should slowly eat away at the poor areas and crime ridden areas...

for many west paterson residents its no big deal that they are sorrounded by paterson, passaic. for others, they would never invest their money in a town that is soclose to other shady areas.

since we do not know you your personal standards in terms of safety may be very different from say an adult who grew up in tough hoods. Paterson would likely not bother them but others will run away as fast as they can.
I lived in West Pat (now "Woodland Park") for nine years. It IS a big deal that Paterson's next door, which is why the cops sit like spiders on Rifle Camp Road waiting for undesirable-looking characters to come riding along. Of course, sometimes they also pick up West Paterson residents in their web, hehehe.

True. When my mother grew up, in Midland Park, they always went to Paterson because that's where the movies and shopping was. Then we were kids, she took us shopping there because it was less expensive than "going out to the highway", plus you could always get car parts and whatnot in Paterson. Years later, when I was on jury duty for Passaic County, I went out for lunchtime walks and to shop, but some of my fellow jurors were horrified at the thought of leaving the courthouse area.

Looks like Paterson has about triple the crime index as Round Rock, plus murder is almost nonexistent here - even though this place is full of guns.

Just sayin'

And no, we don't have any ghettos.

Cary, NC
Chapel Hill, NC
Round Rock, TX
Irvine, CA
Plano, TX
Frisco, TX
Bellevue, Washington
Gilbert, AZ
Temecula, CA

These are all good. Sad thing is because of this reason they are getting lots of immigration from all over, especially north. And when they get bigger in the future, they will probably see more crime.
