I haven't taken the bus to NY from NJ in a couple of years, but I'll be moving back in a month and had a question about the lakeland bus from rockaway mall. It looks like there are three buses in the morning that go from Rockaway to Midtown.

Does anyone here take that route? How bad is the traffic usually in the morning? The 645am bus says it gets to 51st and Madison at 7:58. Does that seem pretty accurate?

Just curious as I figure out the best way to commute from Dover.

Thank!

I've never done that commute or taken that bus, but that time (1 hour 13 minutes at 6:45 AM) seems to be in the ballpark, I think.

I used to take a different commuter bus from the Essex Green bus stop in West Orange. (That's around exit 8 on route 280.) It took about 45 minutes, at around that same time in the morning, to get to the Port Authority bus station.

The Rockaway Mall is about 20 miles away from Essex Green, and depending on the traffic on 80 and 280, that means an extra 25-30 minutes...and that's to get to the Port Authority. If you are talking about going crosstown to Madison Ave, once you're in midtown, I would think that would add at least a few more minutes on to the bus trip.

So my more conservative estimate would be 1 hour and 20 minutes.
