Would you say that Montclair and Upper Montclair are friendly?
That people tend to be friendly there?

I'd be coming from NYC.

I know people think people in New York City are unfriendly, but I actually don't find it to be the case.
I feel like New Yorkers are generally ready to chat with strangers, for the most part (which I enjoy),it's like a part of the general street-life that people enjoy here.

Do you think people are more standoffish in NJ, even in a nice/artsy/liberal town like Montclair?

Any experiences in the town, even just visiting, appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Friendly, unless you're wearing a Make America Great Again hat. Super-friendly if you have a Feel The Bern t-shirt.

Related Montclair question. How's the area around the Walnut Street NJT train station? By real estate listing, it looks like it can go either way.

What do you mean, "either way"? The only bad part of Montclair is near Bay Street station, not Walnut Street station.

I saw a listing on a block that looked somewhat run down.

Probably best for you to go see the listing and area in person. That area has tons to do, close to the training and walking distance to many bars and restaurants.

Walnut Street area has slightly 'edgier' restaurants than the main downtown. Not run down at all. Run down houses near there wouldn't be the norm.
