Where to Live near Montebello, NY (real estate, renting, house)

Hi,
I would be moving to Montebello, NY soon and would like to know what would be good area to live.


The Budget I have for the house is around 500K for 3+ bedroom relatively newer build home.


(i) Should I be looking for a place in NY or NJ State? Cost of living/ Real Estate perspective.
(ii) Usually I have noticed that areas with better School district are good investment for resale in future. I don't have children but am thinking from perspective of them being nicer suburbs in general.
(iii) 1 other concern I have would be if I have to change the Job down the road in 3 to 5 years should I consider a place where I could have comparatively manageable commute to Manhattan or would that area be too expensive.
(iv) I will be commuting frquenty once in amoth or 2 months to Canada so prefer Northern part of the State.


INitially I am thinking of renting an appartment for few months near my perspective long term accomodation to get myself familiar with the area.


Any suggestions and recommendations.
