I went with Countrywide directly - cut out the middleman and points. I have used them for two mortgages now and have no complaints. You can google them and their website should come up.Good luck ; )))

ING usually giver very compatitive rate. Also, no middleman

I don't think ING offers a 30yr fixed rate though? Typically ARMS. Unless something has changed?

countrywide directly is retail..... going thur a Mortgage lender is wholesale and can see who has better rates.
also some know how to repair credit for free... to close the loan... credit score is always a factor of what bank to use.

We went with Wells Fargo and had a nice smooth transaction. We closed 2-29-08 our rate was 5.375 no points or origination fees.

I know someone who had trouble making payments and CountryWide wouldn't even work with them.

Try Hudson City Savings Bank. We were able to get 6% on a 30 year fixed jumbo. This was considerably better for us than any of the bigger banks. They are NJ based and will require 20% down.
