It completely depends on how large your place is. I have a friend who pays $85 a week for housecleaning for a moderate middle class home. I have another who pays $260 a week for a 6000 sq ft. home.

In both instances that I mentioned above, it was for a once a week cleaning.

As long as it takes them to clean the house...

Figure 1-2 hours for a typical home (remember, they're only doing surface cleaning, dusting/sweeping/floor washing - laundry, polishing, etc. would be extra)

And then for the larger home, I vaguely recall her saying that it takes the maid about 3-4 hours.

Back during my single days while living in Clifton, in a 2 bedroom apt about 800 sq ft I paid $100 a week and that included laundry and sometimes even cooking on that day. Find yourself a recently arrived LEGAL immigrant. They're always looking for work to make extra $$.

I thought the going rate a few years back was $20/hour. We had three different cleaning ladies (all legal) over a 3 year period and they were all about the same.

I have 3600 sq ft my cleaning lady comes every 2 weeks and she is $125 each visit. She is amazing... I would pay her more if I had too.

I pay $90 for 2 people, 3br, 2.5 Bth house. They come by-weekly and it takes them about 2 hours to clean the house.
