Why do some people believe it's necessary to get soaked with exorbitant property taxes in order to have good schools? There are good schools throughout the US, and they're not soaking people with exorbitant property taxes like they do here in NJ.
Like in any other business to have high quality employees you must be able to pay like a privet company pays or in this case compete with privet school pay.The systems in Millburn , Summit ,Chatham etc... need to pay Teachers the same to compete with Delbarton,Pingry,Morristown Beard ,Oak Knoll, Kent Place and others.
I think MA is the only state that actually does consistently rank higher than ours in public school performance, at least of the two you mentioned. MN is another on a national level, but that's about it. IIRC CT doesn't normally outrank us.
I agree that property taxes in some towns are insane. Another NJ problem, one that contributes, is that pretty much each municipality, no matter how small or safe, has its own police, fire, and often EMS force.
Ok even if NJ is better, it's not by much. The main point is that those states have excellent schools, safety and local services without the crazy property taxes. I know they have other taxes, like on vehicles for example. However, you can control what you drive, not your property taxes.

AND those state have some schools that aren't that great.I can go to place's in Conn that have very high property taxes and great schools ,same with Mass. Those place's in NJ also are safe and have local services as for "other taxes" NJ has them to ....they are called FEES and yes they are the exact same thing. What's your point?

My point is you might find a few places with crazy property taxes, but never like NJ. We have the highest property taxes, everyone knows it. As for the bad school districts, they're only a handful up there.
Taxes here are unnecessarily too high! It's time to consolidate services!

Yep, there's no justification for these property taxes. It shouldn't just be consolidation of services, whole school districts and municipalities should merge. Too much duplication. But nothing is going to change because of home rule, public unions, etc.

Look around Maryland.People there would argue with you. They had a "RAIN" tax.
The last time that it was pointed out to him--probably a few months ago--he flailed around for an extended period of time, claiming that he had no clue as to what others were referring to.
