What's it like to live in Edgewater, NJ these days? Assuming, one lives within walking distance form the ferry, and commutes to the Carnegie Hall area, what is a realistic door to door commute? Are there any walkable areas in Edgewater? I assume the entire waterfront is contiguous and good for walking and running? Do young families like living there or do most move out due to lack of a middle school? I have heard the public elementary school is good.
Door to door my record was 40 minutes, but it all depends on crosstown traffic.
On average closer to 1 hour. Entire waterfront is not contiguous, there's a gap between Trader Joes to Mitsuwa.
I find reliance on really good schools way overstated. I didn't go to a very good school but still got into Harvard medical school, it's all up to you to tell your kids the importance of studying.
Problem with Edgewater is congestion, you can pay 1.5M for a townhouse and still share a wall with someone else and that's not right in my book. Very few actual houses that you can buy, and they're not affordable.
The Edgewater ferry docks at the 39th st pier so your best commuter option is the free ferry shuttle buses that run crosstown from the terminal. Buses that run along 50th & 57th st should bring you close to work. Details: LINK
