I just got engaged and also got a new Job. My new job is in Hazlet NJ/ Jackson NJ but at the moment my Fiancé works in NYC. I would like to find something that is equidistant and won't be too much of a hassle to commute. My Fiancé is train commuter and I will be driving. We would also like to live near the NJ metro station. We would also like to live in an area where we can walk to shops and restaurants. If you have any suggestions that would be great.

Thank you all!!!

We have a budget of 3K a month for rent that is the top of our budget. We are not looking to buy just yet we don't know where work is going to move my fiancé next.

I would consider Rahway and/or Metuchen as both have train stations on the direct line to NYC, both are prob less than 30 min drive to Hazlet, and I think both have rental below your budget.

hazlet is pretty convenient to drive through since its right off the parkway at exit 117. there is a train station in hazlet and nearby middletown. you could probably get a nice townhouse for 3k a month.

There's ferry service from Belford and the Highlands. Expensive, but in terms of hassle reduction, beats NJ Transit any day of the week. I don't know much about the towns around there, but it's close to Hazlet.
