Was surprised that Kearny was in NYT's radar real estate wise, but as the piece makes clear proximity to NYC is causing people looking to make that move....

I didn't read the article, but I'll guess it fits with NYT's formula for profiling suburban communities. I guess it goes something like this:

They introduce you to a couple who have really face-punchy names like Clementine and Holden. And they were renting in Chelsea/Park Slope/wherever (but really they're from Oklahoma). And they were sick of the rent going up and having no place to store their bicycle built for two (that's so New York, right???). So they held their noses and found a home in NJ that they could afford and that had SO. MUCH. SPACE!! Clementine needed some extra persuading so they got a French bulldog named Jicama. They're still adjusting to the terrible bagels, buses, and lacking multi-ethnic-fusion brunch places, but thank gods there are other couples from NYC who have moved here recently too, and they'll help each other make it out here on the frontier.

LOL That made me laugh. Surprisingly it's a NJ couple who lived in Bergen County for 18 years, then Jersey City for 2, now bought in Kearny. Names are Peter and Tricia.

There's the Hispanic couple who moved from the Bronx (but originally the DR, at least the guy).

In "The Vibe" section, they tell you you can get good Peruvian chicken or shepherd's pie (no comment on quality though).

Didn't they write the same article about Secaucus a few months ago?

NYC Conquistadors discover & civilize lands west of the Hudson.
New York Times "discovers" Jersey City for the 3rd time this year.

Think it is safe to say areas of NJ close to Manhattan, especially with easy commutes into are on the radar of many thanks to high NYC housing costs.

The Park Slope/western Brooklyn crowd and others such as those priced out of Greenwich Village, Chelsea or UWS are heading to places like Maplewood. Others are discovering working/middle class towns like Jersey City, and yes, Kearny.
