Great area just need a nice size bank account to live there. The homes are rather expensive for the most part but you tend to get a lot more land and better schools up there. Also many children attend private schools. For more information on these areas check out these websites:
The train can take you into NYC without a problem. I sell homes up there often and almost always buyers are looking to commute to NYC. Never heard a complaint about the train system.
The Hills is the name of what some people call a "super Development", which is actually made up of something like 30 different community developments on something approaching 2,000 acres in the towns of Basking Ridge & Bedminster, with a series of shared ameneties, like parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, etc. Each community has it's own homeowners association. It started out with some condos & townhouses in Bedminster in the mid 1980s and has kept right on expanding. I believe it's the largest planned community in the state of NJ. Both Bedminster & Basking Ridge are great towns, with excellent school systems, (Bernards Township actually built the Mt. Prospect School in the Hills to accomodate the k-5 students living in the Basking Ridge Section of the Hills) and many of the attributes people want in their towns. There is a huge array of propery options available, from 1 bedroom condominiums in the $250k range, up to a 5 bedroom 6,300 sq. foot colonial on 2.25 acres, for just under $2million. The Hills is very convenient to Rt. 287 & 78, so commuting to NYC isn't to difficult. A little under an hour drive to the Holland Tunnel, unless there's traffic, which of course, there always will be if you have to travel at rush hour. If you prefer the train, there are a couple of stations, Far Hills being the closest. If you catch one of the express trains, it's 74 minutes from Far Hills to Penn Station NYC.
