I know that most of us could not afford to buy a house in that pricey town.

what do you want to know?
Schools are great. Taxes are low. Not good for public commuting but quick drive during non rush hour. Mostly septic. Pretty neighborhoods, lots of trees, large properties. Better shopping now that Whole foods opened in Closter.

Rich town (among the richest in America), expensive homes, low property taxes (for NJ standards), great location close to New York.

Very high end and wealthy town - one of the wealthiest in America. A lot of celebrities - mainly because of the large lot sizes, lack of ordinary commercial and retail property, and the quietness of the place. Its very quick in and out of Manhattan by car, but not great for commuting - hence celebrities like it - they can drive (or be driven in) at non-rush hour.

Based on the above, I don't love it for a "regular" family. Not a lot of kids doing ordinary kid things. Ordinary shopping and restaurants are not nearby. Basically if you are a NY Yankee, a rich movie star, or a foreign despot, its a nice quiet place to spread out in and be next to Manhattan. But if you are looking to have the kids in five different sports and be involved in the PTA and do ordinary family stuff, its not the place to be.

Can I ask how you earn your living (tongue-in-cheek)?

Alpine is THE zip code in NJ for sure.

I see one house for sale under $1M right now. So if you've always wanted to be the poorest person in town, there's your opportunity.
