We are moving to East Brunswick soon. My work place is in Jersey City (next to Newport PATH Station).
Driving from EB to Newport, JerseyCity seems to be stressful, so was wondering what my other commute options would be.
Are there good bus services or any other alternative to driving?
Or, even if driving, are there any particular strategy (like driving half-way and taking NJT etc)?
One option is to take Coach bus from East Brunswick to New Brunswick where you can get the NorthEast corridor line train to Newark where you can switch to the PATH train to Jersey City.
Coach USA has service from South Brunswick to Jersey City. IIRC there is parking at South Brunswick and the bus stops at Exchange Place and Newport. The earlier suggestion involves taking a bus to a train then then getting the PATH to Journal Square and then changing for Newport.

It looks like there is only one bus each weekday at 7:20 a.m. heading to Jersey City.
And, one bus leaving Jersey City at 5:30 p.m towards South Brunswick.
My husband did this commute for a few years. NJTransit bus 68, which runs along Rt. 18, will drop you off right across the street from Newport PATH (near the JPMC building). Depending on where you can pick up the bus (aka. where in East Brunswick you're coming from) the challenge can be getting a seat on the first bus during peak rush hour times. I used to drop my husband off at the Starbucks on Tices because him driving to and parking at the transportation center (the next stop), especially during "rush hour", usually resulted in him having to wait 1 or 2 buses before he could get a seat.
But if you are on an earlier stop or leave early enough, it's a pretty no-hassle, convenient way of getting to JC from East Brunswick.
