I remember a Dirty Harry movie where Harry foiled the bank robbery because of an idling getaway driver. He might have been a pedophile too. They didn’t say anything about it in the movie so I guess we will never know for sure.
Now, he wasn’t suspiciously driving, but he was suspiciously idling outside the bank. Harry noticed the driver smoking a cigarette and there were several cigarette butts on the ground below the drivers side window, making Harry suspicious, and causing him to think that this guy has been suspiciously idling for a while. So Harry foiled the robbery thanks to his keen eye, for idling and suspicious driving, just like the OP.

This is a great example of what I’m trying to say. If we didn’t have idling pedophiles it would be extremely difficult to stop bank robberies. Thanks MD!

The fact that idling pedophiles are less likely to smoke cigarettes these days, makes it difficult enough as it is.
No assumptions needed. They were smoking cigarettes and exchanging words.

All I got from the article is that the attackers were waiting for their parking spot, and they said that they weren’t leaving yet. To me, that isn’t “exchanging words”.
And even if they were (which they weren’t) is there ever an excuse for a middle aged man to beat up a teenage girl?
I mean, do you really think the teenage girl took the first swing at the middle aged man?
