Also might find a few in Tinton Falls--large town with a lot of different types of housing, some in your price range, a bit closer to Red Bank than Howell.
I’m in a similar boat, looking to move from Indianapolis for a job in Middletown N.J. for $350k or less, although won’t know for sure until I sell houses here (I have 2 to sell). I’m mostly finding fixer uppers or townhouses / condos, which add there additions with HOA fees + property tax.
Roselle Park is in Union County 35 mins from NYC with a Train or bus directly you can buy a fine ,safe home for under 300,000... it's a up an coming town right next to Cranford which is $$$$. A friend bought 3 years ago and their house has gone up 50,000 with a few add on's
The OP isn't looking for a place with access to New York City. He's trying to find a place close to where he works. Didn't you read the first post?

Yes, Middletown has exploded over the past 20 - 25 years with people from the NYC boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn wanting a suburban environment.
The good news about you and the OP not working in New York City is that the prices will be lower in those towns like Howell that are a little further out and do not attract as many people who need to do the city commute. Look southwest of where you will be working.
I'd rent for a year first, mostly because the first place you land is going to inform you a lot about what you find important. Red Bank is a great cusp, close to the beach and close to New York, but you're going to find out which in that year you would want to live closer to (or further away from both!)
I agree with renting for a year first. I know they give you incentives to buy sometimes when you relocate but buying in a town you don't like can be a big regret
My preference would be to rent, but I have a dog and two cats. Apartments I have looked at all limit you to two pets
