I found a room through Air bnb at $40/night in Keansburg, NJ. Looked nice, the host lives near a bus stop, so I can go to Manhattan, then take a bus down (I have freebies coming to me on Amtrak). The host also lives across the street from the beach.
There is a functioning kitchen and I can cook! I see that there is a Lidl's in Keansburg, so I'll stock up on gluten-free foods and cook my own meals. That will save me some change too. $180 for three nights, $20 on transit, then I'm going to say $50 on food for three days. I'm quite happy and I'm quite excited.
I can't wait to go - 16-19 July, 2020 and I will report back! Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
The last time I went with my family, we drove to the amusement area and had to quickly get back in the car and leave. Thanks to the parking enforcement guys walking around, I can't believe it's that strict over there. So we ended up driving around looking for a good place to park but once I saw the surrounding area we quickly turned around and left.
If you want to go to a nice beach amusement park area go to Pt Pleasant Beach or down by the Jersey Shore. Keansburg probably fooled a lot of people with those tourist photos.
oh my god jess, how did you end up choosing keansburg? i hope you have a great time.
Mostly the price and the location to the beach. I don't drive, so staying somewhere cheap near a beach, amusement park, boardwalk, and transit is a win-win. I'm paying off some debt, I'm paying off another credit card next month, so I'm celebrating responsibly and this air bnb has a cook in the house option. I'm celiac, so being able to cook for myself is important. I just have to figure out the distance to Lidl.
Why? I've never been to Keansburg or even heard of it until Monday. Please tell.
I'm hoping for the best for you, because I have heard that Keansburg has improved quite a bit over the past few years.
For the longest time, it was a really unappealing, run-down shore town. Hopefully the improvements have been significant, and hopefully you will enjoy yourself.

Agreed, and just looking at a map and seeing that Keansburg is right across the bay from Staten Island pretty much speaks for itself.
do people go to the beach in keansburg? i live a few miles from keansburg and i go to the beach in sea bright. it looks like most people go to sandy hook for the beach.

Hmmm... if that is the case, could I walk to Sandy Hook? It doesn't look too far on a map. I was looking at photos of Keansburg Beach and it looked nice. Hopefully...
