Im moving to Rutherford and my apartment complex will pay for heat and hot water. I called PSEG and am having my electric and cooking gas turned on. Ive seen around craigslist of people mentioning "sewer" as a utility. What exactly is that and do I need to get that set up? Thanks for your help as this is my first time out of the nesT!
Sewer is your sanitary line carrying waste (anything that drains) to the sanitary main in the street. In my town, there is a quarterly sewer bill. Fun fun.
There is nothing to set up with that. Don't worry, they will find you at bill time! Sanitary lines work on gravity so there is physically nothing that has to be altered when you move in. It's always working.
But I doubt that any of this is an issue to an apartment dweller. It's probably built into your rent.
yes what invertigo said--also it is with the water bill. you must get the water bill moved into your name and by the address they will charge you for the cold water and sewer.
It's likely the water (and sewer) is included in your rent. I hope you enjoy living in Rutherford. I lived there for several years and loved it.
