Geez, I would feel bad for Wiley.
She tried to get a group together up in her neck of the woods.

I wonder how many of us would be free one day/night for a little get together at The Tiki Bar.

You must be my twin because I do the same thing 3 or 4 times a year. The Wharfside just erected a huge new tented facility on the Manasquan Inlet that has live music all weekend long. Gotta check that one out fisch.

Well, the final plans are not made yet, but here's what we have "on the table."
A week in:
1) Rapid City, South Dakota. We want to see Mount Rushmore and we may consider moving to the Black Hills permanently. This part of the country is rapidly becoming a new retirement mecca that east coast people haven't discovered yet.
2) Tri-Cities, Tennessee. This may wait for the fall. I've always wanted to attend the International Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough. The lower Blue Ridge Mountains on the border of TN and NC are simply breathtaking. Also a possible relocation destination.
3) Western New York. We've yet to see Niagara Falls and we're itching to see the place that bills itself as "The Grand Canyon of the East" at Letchworth State Park. More so, we love hiking in New York's parks, especially in the Finger Lakes Region -- Watkins Glen, Buttermilk Falls, etc.
4) It's been a few years since we spent a week at the Jersey Shore, most likely in Ocean City. Having once lived there, the specialness becomes common. Now, gone for six years, it's no longer common. I need a refresher.
5) The wife wants to see New Hampshire
6) I'd like to spend a month in Texas.
7) Not this year, but we want to take a summer cruise to Alaska.
8) Again not this year, but I'm fascinated with Iceland. I'd be thrilled to be in the first fossil-fuel-free country, and I'd love to learn more about hydrogen power.

I'd done the summer cruise to Alaska - wonderful! It's not that cold until you get up to the glaciers - Ketchikan and Juneau were much milder than I expected.

I'm facinated with Iceland too - the plane ride isn't too bad from here (5hrs?) and IcelandAir used to have very reasonable specials (4 days, air and hotel around $500?). I haven't looked in awhile so with the gas issue I'm sure it's shot up in price. I WILL get there one day.

In my estimation, this is one of the most underrated areas in the U.S. Spearfish, Deadwood, Belle Fourche, etc. I remember when I left there I declared that some day I would want to spend a summer there, if not several summers. Cost of living is remarkably low, climate very dry, etc. It's just not an economic engine at all. At least Sioux Falls, on the other side of the state, is. The only economy other than tourism around here is Ellsworth A.F.B., which I think was on the BRAC list.
