Clark vs Springfield (Scotch Plains, Cranford, Fanwood: schools, live in, move to)

I currently live in Clark and work in Manhattan and am thinking of making a move to Springfield, specifically the area walkable to the Short Hills train station. I am also looking in Cranford, Scotch Plains, and Fanwood but it seems like my budget (600k) can go further in Springfield. I am just wondering how is the town? I especially appreciate any feedback on the schools. They seem to rank better than Clark but not as well as other towns. Thank you all!
