Does anyone know any local (Northern NJ/Bergen County) charities that accept donations like used children's toys, clothing, etc? I have so much stuff I would love to donate but I can't find anything local. Couple of places I was able to find accept only brand new stuff.

I found Salvation Army store in Paterson but they don't accept donations at this time :-(

Call one of the catholic churches in your area and ask if they have a Saint Vincent DePaul Society. I'm not sure how it works around you but in our area, different churches accept different things. Some accept clothes, food and toys while others only take food. I guess it all depends on need.

You could also try the catholic church in Patterson for their outreach program.

Many places won't take toys that need batteries b/c it is too expensive for many to replace them

Try some hospitals...pediatric units and emergency rooms frequently need toys and clothing (clothing for kids whose clothing had to be cut off when they came into the ER).

I second the idea of trying some churches. There are some that will take them and distribute to hospitals for kids with cancer & aids. They have to be in good shape though.

Maybe also try some womens shelters. I used to bring food to one up there but I can't remember the name. I would think they can use clothes for the kids and toys.

I didn't even think of churches. That's a good idea. Thanks! I'll try.

I use Vietnam Vets. You can schedule the pickup online, put your items outside, and they leave a receipt. Very convenient.
