State has just two weeks to come up with replacement service via NJT or something.

I used to take this bus years ago to commute into Manhattan. They were expensive, and the service sucked. Goodbye & good riddance to them. Hopefully, NJT absorbs their routes.

Yes, NJT will start temporarily taking over their routes this Monday on a very limited rush hour schedule. They have also taken this opportunity to once again beg for more Federal help so they can increase service to fully serve those who are affected by this. (A good friend of mine is affected a great deal)

"NJ Transit will pick up some of DeCamp’s bus routes — 33, 66, and 44 — and provide morning and evening rush-hour service, Monday through Friday only. A bus company called Boxcar is also set to offer service along a DeCamp route. BoxCar will offer a new Essex Express run from West Caldwell through Bloomfield and Montclair to Lyndhurst. But Boxcar will make fewer stops, and membership costs $30 a month, with tickets at $9 a ride. Both NJ Transit and Boxcar services will begin April 10. "

Apparently covid did DeCamp in... Ridership fell during pandemic and never returned to anywhere near previous levels.

Various pots of money from federal and state government kept things going, but that's all gone now.

With WHF and other factors not enough are commuting between NYC and NJ to make it worth DeCamp bothering, that is unless they are subsidized for providing service.

That's misleading. Their ridership levels are only at 20% of prepandemic levels, because their service levels were never fully restored. They used to run the #32, #66X, #88, #100, and more service on the #33, #44, #66, and #99. (To put it into perspective, they used to run hourly service on the weekends, now it's almost every 3 hours). The average load per bus might be somewhat lower than before, but not 20%.

They also missed out on the opportunity to gain back ridership by allowing intrastate riders. I would've used their #44 route if it actually allowed you to travel within NJ. Also, if they had a mobile app or at least accepted cash on the buses...apparently you're only able to buy tickets from certain vendors...if I have to backtrack to Bloomfield just to buy a bus ticket (for a route that runs once per hour), I might as well just stick with the light rail to the PATH.

They can't, due to regulatory issues.
