Murphy is going to see these wind farms built no matter what some people say.

Good. Being a coastal state, the ability to do this is a big advantage.

Guessing the opposition will dry up given that these new projects are far enough out that they are not viewable from the beach.

The two new sites are located 41 and 45 miles off the coast, and according to the report will be visible during clear days. Makes you think about the massive ones going up only 8 and 15 miles off the coast.

So do these things still kill massive amounts of birds, or have they fixed that issue? Or does it matter that these huge windmills kill huge numbers of birds? Maybe it doesn't matter.

Actually, the biggest killers of birds are cats. While feral cats are the worst offenders, even house cats that are allowed to go outside will kill birds, simply because that is their natural predatory instinct.

The generally accepted estimate of the number of birds killed annually by cats in The US is 1.3 billion to 4 billion. Second on the list of bird deaths is building/window collisions. Wind turbines are so far down on the list that they are truly insignificant when compared to cats.

The leading causes of US bird deaths are estimated as follows:
1--Cats--1.3 billion-4 billion
2--Building/window collisions-- 599 million
3--Automobiles--200 million
4--Electrical power line collisions--25 million
5--Communication towers--6.6 million
6--Electrical power line electrocutions--5.6 million
7--Agricultural chemicals--exact number unknown for US, but Canada estimates 2.7 million
8--Wind turbines--234,000

Wind Turbines didnt make the list because they arent built yet. Cats kill your garden birds that are usually teased by a robin or blue jay (at least my cat growing up did). The Wind Turbines are slaughter houses for the 156 migratory bird species that come up through the coastline, some as far from Chile and Argentina.

Disgusting! Nuclear is the answer to next generation energy production, not bird-frying solar and bird-slicing wind turbines. If we'd stop pussyfooting around with supposed "green" energy, and get to work on energy that's viable and reliable, like nuclear, we might actually accomplish something meaningful... Next generation nuclear requires a fraction of the land older nuclear plants needed and produce less nuclear waste. Not to mention, nuclear still provides energy when it's a cloudy and windless day...

Wind and solar are pipedreams that some refuse to give up on and that's because Big Green has sunken their claws (and money) into so much of our energy policy that it drowns out logic and rationality.
