Since these can do 20-30mph I don't see a problem with this.

A new bill in Trenton would require New Jerseyans to register electric bikes and electric scooters they own and pay insurance before they hit the road.
LOL, not going to happen. My e-bike is probably dead, I haven't ridden it in years, but if a bill like this passes I'd consider fixing it and riding it as a protest.
Incidentally I can do 20-30mph on my road bike (no motor), and I'm not registering that one either.
This bit's sort of amusing:

Those with an e-bike or e-scooter would not be required to have a driver's license and could ride on all types of roads including highways, the bill says.
So I could take my e-bike on I-280? If you put a gun to my head and made me register, I'd do so at least once after that. It's the one road crossing Second Mountain I haven't ridden.

And you would still have to obey the traffic laws.
I'd like to see who is lobbying for this. This is about getting E-Scooters on the road which sounds like a terrible idea.
