A good septic system in good soil lasts up to 30 - 40 years with maintainance. The upside to having septic is that you don't have a sewer charge.

Ok, don't quote me on this but yes you can. You just can't overload it. Like shove 5 plates of food down it 3 times a day all year long.

Be green compost!

I don't, but I'm looking into it.

I wouldn't recommend it. The stuff you flush down the drain lands in a large concrete tank that's piped to a leach field. I have a septic system and I've had no issues - mind what you flush and have the tank pumped out every three years and it will last you a long time.

Agree, we have one as well, no sewerage bills.
You need to have it pumped every few years...

Watch how much bleach you use as it kills the good bacteria
Use only laundry, dishwasher soap,( low phosphate) toilet paper that says safe for septic
I don't care what the box says do not flush tampons into the septic
garbage disposal...I wouldn't
