Hi, I am new to this forum but not new to NJ. born and bred here and a true Jersey Girl. I live in North Plainfield and am planning on doing some renovations to my home. HOWEVER, i am having some real trouble in obtaining the construction permits! I have brought them everything they asked for and even had the building inspector call me and tell me that everything looked good and that he has signed off on them. problem is that they have had my "folder" for amost a month now and when I go down there to ask if the permits are ready, I get a very cold response of "we will call you when they are done." I have been very polite and nice to the ladies in the office as well. Waiting for these permits is giving me an ulcer for crying out loud. Is there anyone out there who can give me some advice on how to get the township to give me the permit that I need? Its crazy but I am losing sleep over this mess! Thanks in advance for ANY help anyone can give me.

Alicia

Here's what I suggest: Go to North Plainfield's Monday night (August 11) Council Meeting at Vermuele Senior Center, 7:30 pm, where all citizens may address the council. Read them your post. It tells your story concisely. If you have not received action after one week, contact www.communityrights.wordpress.com and relate your problem. They will help you.

Having been in the construction business for more than 30 years in NJ I can understand your problem.
Most towns will process permits in the order in which they are filed so if you have a one page application with a couple of blueprints your applications might be next in line for review behind the 100 page shopping center application. I swear they never heard of the "do the easy ones first" so your 1/2 hour review might be sitting under the six week review.

Lots of luck.

Please call Dave Hollod, North Plainfield Borough Administrator, and identify yourself. Tell him you're the reason I read your post as violetchick051 at tonight's Council meeting. I think you'll get the help you need. If not, let me know.
